When high-sided vehicles are stopped, lorries on the mainland wait in a safe place on the A55, and lorries on Anglesey are sent to the Parc Cybi site near Holyhead until the wind drops.
The Menai Suspension Bridge
The older Menai Suspension Bridge carries the A5 and is the alternative crossing, but only for vehicles under 7.5 tonnes: heavier vehicles have to wait for the Britannia Bridge to reopen. Repair works on the Suspension Bridge, with a 7.5-tonne limit throughout, are expected to finish in spring 2027.
